All the government offices will be closed on the 16th of April, 2016 while the country celebrates the arrival of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, 400 years ago. There will be a very big celebration at the Punakha Dzong, followed by the naming ceremony of the Prince of Bhutan.  

Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal unified Bhutan and also brought the administrative system into the country. 


The Visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

The Royal Couple arrive to Bhutan on their two day visit to renew their excellent friendship with the King and Queen of Bhutan. First of all, they were received at the Paro airport by Ashi Chimmi Wangmo Wangchuck (one of the princesses of Bhutan) and in the afternoon, the Royal Couple had an audience with His Majesty the King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck and the Queen Ashi Jetsun Pema. 
They proceeded onto trying out their skills in the traditional Bhutanese sport of Archery and Darts (Khuru) in the national stadium in Thimphu.

The birth of the Gyaltse

Recently, all the people of Bhutan have been rejoicing and celebrating the birth of the crown prince of Bhutan. The Male Fire Monkey year (2016) truly holds one of the most joyous occasions for the people in Bhutan. A prince was born on the Fifth of February to Her Majesty Ashi Jetsun Pema and His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk. As soon as the news of the birth was released, people all over the country began celebrating the good news. Many well wishers voiced their happiness and excitement over the local broadcasting service. People all over the country have been visiting monasteries to offer butter lamps and prayers for the new born.
